Day 41: Week 6 Weigh-in

I’m almost halfway done with the 90 day Body For Life challenge. Last week I had planed and was still 162. This week weighing in at 159. That’s a total of 11 pounds in 6 weeks.

Today’s post is going to be mainly pictures. Being almost halfway through the 90 day program, I took a lot more pictures and I also have some new starting pictures that I haven’t shown before. For starters, let’s do the standard front and back pictures that I’ve been doing each week:

The scale is not the only thing that shows success. At some point, I may even start to put some weight on once I’ve trimmed all the fat and am primarily building muscle. The best way to show yourself progress is by seeing how your clothes fit. There is a pair of jeans that I used to wear but within the last year have outgrown and no longer fit in them. These jeans were one of the things that inspired me to do Body For Life this year. It was a sign that I was putting the weight back on. At the beginning of Body For Life I tried them on and I could hardly fit into them. I used to wear them all the time and they were not tight on me. I could barely even get them buttoned. Here are the pictures from both the front and the back – before and after 6 weeks on Body For Life:

The pictures from the back really show the difference in my body. You can tell that I’m trimming the fat off. Before I started Body For Life, I’ll be honest — I didn’t look horrible. I hid my roll fairly well under a t-shirt. My wife Allison said to me – “I don’t know why you’re doing Body For Life – you don’t need to lose any weight”. After seeing these pictures at week 6, she said to me today that she didn’t realize how fat I had gotten. She had one word for the pictures – “inspiring”. Now, for a close-up view from the back (click to enlarge):

Now, my day off wouldn’t be complete without some sort of splurge. We went to dinner tonight at our favorite Tex Mex restaurante, Chuy’s….mmmmmmm

I ordered a steak burrito, and it was delicious!

I’m truly amazed at how much progress I can already see at the halfway mark. Doing a weekly weigh-in and photo shoot has really helped keep me motivated. Looking back at the progress I’ve made helps to keep me on track during the week.

Day 34: Week 5 Weigh-in

Time for yet another weigh-in. Man, the weeks are flying by – I’m already on week 5. This week I stayed the same weight as last week (162). I’m not concerned, though. As i previously mentioned, weight is not everything. The pictures are looking better each week, and that’s what matters. A some point I may even start gaining some weight (muscle) once I’ve burned all the fat off. Now, for the front pics:

And the back pics:

This week I moved my day off up. I started last night at dinner – we had a pre-season soccer party Friday night for my son’s soccer team and their families. I grilled up some burgers and hot dogs for everyone. Even though it was my day off, I still opted for the turkey burger and turkey dog, which is much leaner than the beef burgers. They have about 1/3 less calories and fat than the all beef ones. My day off will end before Saturday’s dinner.

My daughter has a dance competition that we’ve been at all day today. Now, for a little bit of my geeky side. I edited my week 5 photos before I left the house and uploaded them. The rest of the post I’m writing from my iPad. When we bought our iPad lasts year, we opted for the WiFi only version. We already pay enough for internet between our cable modem at home and data plans at $30 each for mine and my wife’s phone – then throw another $15/mo on top of that for mobile access on the iPad that we don’t really need…sheesh! You have to draw the line somewhere. Plus, we mainly use the internet on the iPad at the house, so WiFi was just fine for us.

Ok, back on topic to my off topic geek-a-thon. How am I posting this from the bleachers of a high school gym in-between dance performances? The answer: using the internet I already pay for on my phone. Did I pay extra for the tethering package? NO!! Why should I have to? That’s just plain dumb. I already pay for unlimited internet for my phone at $30/mo. Why should I have to pay AT&T an additional $15/mo ($45/mo) just to be able to tether from my iPhone? They sure are trying to milk Americans for as much as they can. How am I tethering from my iPhone to my iPad, you ask? I jailbroke my iPhone using redsn0w, bought the app MyWi from the underground app store, Cydia, for a one-time fee of $19.99. Now I can turn my iPhone into a mobile WiFi hotspot that the iPad can connect to for internet access. I can do the same from my laptop in a pinch – like the other day when I was working from home and the internet went out. I tethered to my computer and was still able to work while Time Warner Cable resolved the outage in our area. My question for all of the ISPs out there is “When will you stop gouging Americans and truly provide an all internet access fee regardless of where you are or what device you’re using?” Have a plan that makes sense, and I’m there.

Peace out.

Day 27: Week 4 Weigh-in

Healthy and maintanable weight loss is between 1-2 pounds per week. I’m right on target with that — averaging 2 pounds per week since I started Body For Life. I’m 1/3 of the way through the 90 days and have lost 8 pounds through 4 weeks. This morning my weigh-in was:

Man, you can really start to see a difference. I think it is even more noticeable from the back. That tire tube around the waist is getting smaller. The crease at the top of the tire tube is almost gone. Taking pictures once a week and putting them together has been very motivating for me.

This week I’m swapping my days off. Up until now I’ve had Saturday as my day off each week. Hello? Super Bowl tomorrow? I’m switching with Sunday this week. Who wants to go to a Super Bowl party while on a diet? I’m doing my DDR today instead of tomorrow and will take the day off tomorrow and not worry about what I eat at the Super Bowl Party we’re going to.

Day 20: Week 3 Weigh-in

Time for my week 3 weigh-in. This morning I was 164 – down one pound from last week.
Down One Pound
I am down a total of 6 pounds since I started Body for Life 3 weeks ago. I’m down from 170 to 164:

Day 13: Week 2 Weigh-in

2 weeks down, folks. First off, the weekly weigh-in. Last week I weighed in at 167. My weigh-in this morning was….drum roll…
5 pounds in 2 weeks
I’m down 2 pounds from 167 to 165 this week. When I do my weekly weigh-in at FatSecret, I record my weight there. They track it and plot it on a graph, which is pretty cool.
FatSecret Weight Chart
The bottom line is my target weight, which is 155. Depending on how much muscle I gain, my ideal weight may be a little higher than that. The main purpose for me doing Body For Life is to lose fat and gain muscle. Whatever ending weight I end up at is fine with me as long as I’ve trimmed the roll around my waste off and have built muscle all the way around.

My body is slowly starting to transform like it is supposed to do in Body For Life. Here are the front pictures after 2 weeks:

Now, from the back is where you can really see a difference – even only after 2 weeks:
Week 2 Rear Pictures (of me from the rear, not my rear)
Now, my day off wouldn’t be complete without some sort of splurge. I’ll be honest – I had a hard time motivating myself to eat something that is not on the Body For Life diet; I’ve gotten so used to it after 2 weeks of it. I know it’s necessary to shock your body, though, so that it can not go into starvation mode and save fat. I want to burn fat and not muscle. I hadn’t eaten much all day long, and finally decided to get a classic burger, fries and drink from Whataburger.
Burger, Fries & Drink
If I’m going to grab a burger from a fast food place, I wouldn’t waste it on McDonalds – yuck. The nice thing about Whataburger here in Texas is that you don’t have to tell them how to make the burger – they just do it right. They make it fresh (no heat lamps) and with mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickle and onions. None of this ketchup or mayonnaise crap…or especially thousand island dressing. Really? Who invented that anyway. That stuff just doesn’t belong on a burger. Just Mustard. Period.

I also have some ice cream for later on tonight…mmm. I think ice cream is where my sweet tooth goes. Some people are chocolate people, others traditional sugar candy, and some are pie people like my older brother. When he wants a cream pie shake, he doesn’t go to some place that makes an imitation shake that tastes like a cream pie. He needs to see them cut a piece of pie, put it in a blender with some ice cream, and make a real for real cream pie shake. He doesn’t mess around. Anyway, I’m an ice cream person. Especially chocolate with brownie chunks in it…mmmm. I guess I’m officially on my day off now – craving ice cream. I’ll enjoy it while it lasts and hit it hard again tomorrow morning.
